Who can take part
- You have stage III or IV gum disease.
- You've already finished steps 1 and 2 of gum treatment (like deep cleaning).
- Your mouth has less than 15% bleeding and plaque at a checkup 3 months after treatment.
- You have at least one tooth with a deep pocket (6 mm or more) and bone loss of 3 mm or more, visible on x-ray.
- The damaged area must be reachable during surgery from only one side (front or back) and have a certain bone shape.
- You are not a heavy smoker (10+ cigarettes a day), don't use chewing tobacco, and aren't pregnant or nursing.
