Who can take part
- You have diabetes with blood sugar control in a specific range (HbA1c between 7–7.9%)
- You have advanced gum disease (Stage III or IV periodontitis) with deep pockets between teeth and gums
- You have at least 15 natural teeth (not counting wisdom teeth)
- You are a nonsmoker and have not smoked
- You have not had any gum disease treatment in the past 6 months
- You are not pregnant or breastfeeding, and not taking antibiotics or other medications that affect gum disease
