Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have a staph infection in your hip or knee replacement.
  • Your treatment includes surgery plus antibiotics (DAIR procedure).
  • You do not have a medical reason to avoid rifampicin (like allergy or drug interactions).
  • You do not have a serious staph infection in your blood or heart valves requiring long-term IV antibiotics.
  • You are not currently on chemotherapy for cancer, have a life expectancy less than 1 year, or are pregnant.
