Who can take part

  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • You are scheduled for planned heart surgery (not an emergency).
  • You will need a breathing tube for more than 2 hours after surgery in the ICU.
  • You do not have severe lung disease or require oxygen at home.
  • Your weight is such that your body mass index (BMI) is 35 or lower.
