- You are scheduled for bypass surgery (CABG) at the University of Iowa hospital
- You have a phone or device that can make video or audio calls
- You speak English well enough to take part in counseling sessions
- You do not have another life-threatening illness besides your heart condition
- You do not have active thoughts of hurting yourself
- You have been on the same dose of any psychiatric medication for at least the past 4 weeks
