Comparing speech understanding: gene therapy vs. cochlear implant

Who can take part

  • You have severe hearing loss from birth (hearing levels of 65 dB or more)
  • You have already received either gene therapy (a treatment that replaces a faulty gene) or a cochlear implant, or you are planning to get one of these
  • You speak Mandarin Chinese as your first language
  • You are at least 6 months old
  • You do not have other ear problems, serious illnesses, or conditions that could interfere with the surgery or treatment
  • You and your guardian are willing to give permission and follow the study schedule
