This study looks at brain wave activity in areas that control movement, both in people with Parkinson's disease who already have deep brain stimulation electrodes and in people with epilepsy who are undergoing brain monitoring with stereo-EEG. Who can take part
- You have Parkinson's disease and have already had surgery to implant electrodes in the subthalamic nucleus (a small area deep in the brain) connected to a PERCEPT device, OR you have drug-resistant epilepsy and are having stereo-EEG (a recording of brain activity with thin wires) as part of planning for surgery.
- At least one of your electrodes must be placed in the basal ganglia or thalamus (brain areas that help control movement and coordination).
- You are between 18 and 75 years old.
- You can perform a simple motor task (like a hand or arm movement) as instructed.
- You are not pregnant or breastfeeding, and you do not have a serious ongoing medical or psychiatric illness that is not well controlled.
