Who can take part
- You have newly diagnosed enlarged veins in your esophagus or stomach (varices) or signs that suggest increased liver pressure
- You have not yet taken beta-blocker medicines for these varices
- Your liver function should be mild (Child-Pugh score A) or better
- You do not have liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma)
- You do not have a blood clot in your main liver vein (portal vein thrombosis)
