Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older.
- You have been diagnosed with esophageal or gastro-esophageal junction cancer (a type of cancer where the stomach meets the esophagus).
- Your cancer has spread to 1–5 spots outside the main tumor area, or it's locally advanced and can't be removed with surgery or cured with standard chemo-radiation.
- You have trouble swallowing (dysphagia) that requires some treatment.
- You are well enough to be up and about for at least half the day (ECOG score 0–2).
- Your doctor expects you to live longer than 12 weeks.
- You weigh more than 30 kg (66 pounds).
- You have not had prior chemotherapy or radiation for esophageal cancer (except for pain relief to bones).
