Who can take part

  • You are scheduled for major hip, knee, pelvis, or spine surgery, and you will be lying on your back during the procedure.
  • You will receive general anesthesia, and the surgery is expected to last more than 90 minutes.
  • You are age 45 or older.
  • You do not have a planned arterial line for blood pressure monitoring.
  • You are not currently in another interventional study.
  • You are not pregnant or nursing, and you do not have atrial fibrillation or an allergy to gelatin.
