Who can take part

  • You are scheduled for a total hip replacement with one of the two study surgeons.
  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You do not have any major nerve or muscle problems (like Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis, or a stroke) that affect movement.
  • You have not had any prior surgery on the same hip, and you have not broken the neck of the thigh bone on that side.
  • You have not had a hip replacement on the other side yet, and you do not have a significant hip deformity or avascular necrosis (bone death) of the hip.
