Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 85 years old.
  • You are scheduled to have a planned first-time hip replacement surgery.
  • You are able to walk and get up from a chair quickly (Timed Up and Go test under 20 seconds).
  • You are not severely overweight (BMI under 40).
  • You do not have serious kidney or liver disease, active cancer, or a history of blood clots.
  • You are not already taking long-term blood thinners (except low-dose aspirin or clopidogrel).
