Early vein isolation for atrial fibrillation in older adults
Part of Heart & circulation clinical trials.
This study compares doing vein isolation soon after diagnosis versus usual care in people 75+ with new or early atrial fibrillation. The goal is to see if early treatment prevents the condition from getting worse and improves quality of life.

Who can take part
- You are 75 years of age or older.
- Your atrial fibrillation was first found less than 12 months ago and comes and goes (paroxysmal) or is early persistent.
- You have not had previous ablation (burning or freezing) for AF.
- You have not had valve replacement or heart-closure procedures.
- You do not have serious structural heart disease, recent stroke, or severe kidney failure.

This trial tests a new method called pulsed field ablation (PFA) to treat irregular heartbeats (atrial fibrillation) by isolating the veins that carry blood to your heart. It aims to see how well this procedure works and if it's safe for you.
This study compares three approaches to treat persistent atrial fibrillation (AF) that lasts more than 7 days. It tests whether isolating the pulmonary veins alone is enough, or if also targeting low-voltage areas (scarred heart tissue) during either normal rhythm or AF works better.
This trial studies a modified ablation procedure that targets the superior vena cava in addition to the pulmonary veins to help stop episodes of paroxysmal (coming and going) atrial fibrillation. It may help people whose symptoms continue despite antiarrhythmic medicines.
This study tests a new catheter that uses pulsed field energy to isolate the veins in your heart that trigger atrial fibrillation. The goal is to see how long the effects last, and you would need to have a repeat procedure about 2–3 months after the first one.
This study tests whether adding a modification to a standard heart procedure (pulmonary vein isolation) works better for people with persistent atrial fibrillation (a type of irregular heartbeat that lasts a long time). It may help find the best way to treat this condition.
This trial tests a newer, possibly safer way to treat persistent atrial fibrillation using pulsed field ablation. It compares standard vein isolation alone to adding extra ablation spots to improve success.
