Who can take part

  • You are over 65 and have persistent atrial fibrillation, or over 75 with intermittent atrial fibrillation (paroxysmal).
  • You have tried at least one heart rate or rhythm medication without success, either because it didn't work or you couldn't tolerate it.
  • An ECG performed while sitting quietly shows your heart rate is above 70 beats per minute on medication, or above 90 without medication, while in atrial fibrillation.
  • You have not had previous procedures for atrial fibrillation (like pulmonary vein isolation, left atrial flutter ablation, or AV node ablation).
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is 40 or less.
  • Your doctor has determined you are suitable for both pulmonary vein isolation and pacemaker implantation.
