Who can take part
- Must be admitted to the intensive care unit after a cardiac arrest (either in the hospital or outside).
- Must be unconscious (Glasgow Coma Scale score less than 8) after the heart starts beating again, and need sedation and temperature management for at least 24 hours.
- Must have had a routine brain wave test (EEG) with a heart rhythm reading (ECG).
- Cannot be expected to pass away soon or have life support stopped before the brain wave test.
- Cannot have an irregular heart rhythm that is not the normal sinus rhythm.
- Cannot be pregnant or breastfeeding.
