Who can take part

  • You are 40 years or older.
  • You were diagnosed with an ischemic stroke (a type of stroke caused by a blockage) by a neurologist, confirmed by a CT or MRI scan.
  • Your vital signs (like blood pressure and heart rate) are stable after a check by an internal medicine doctor.
  • Your stroke happened within the last 10 days.
  • You can stick out your tongue enough for examination and have no risk of jaw dislocation.
  • You understand the study and can give your consent.
  • You do not have an arteriovenous shunt or fistula (a connection between an artery and vein), seizures, or severe confusion that makes communication difficult.
