Sleep, memory, and brain development in napping toddlers

This study follows healthy toddlers who nap regularly to understand how sleep helps memory and brain growth. It uses sleep diaries, activity monitors, and optional brain scans (MRI) to track changes as children grow out of naps.

Who can take part

  • Your child must be between 3 and 5 years old (36 to 60 months).
  • Your child must nap at least 5 days per week on average over the past month.
  • Your child must sleep alone in their own bed (not sharing a bed with others) to keep sleep consistent.
  • Your child cannot have any diagnosed sleep disorder, developmental disability, or past brain injury.
  • Your child cannot take any medicine that affects sleep or mood, and cannot have any metal in their body (like an implant) that would prevent an MRI.
