Who can take part

  • You are 65 years old or older.
  • You are in reasonably good health (ASA class I, II, or III).
  • You are having laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery with a breathing tube for at least 2 hours.
  • Your oxygen level is 94% or higher before surgery.
  • You do not have severe lung, heart, kidney, or liver problems, and your BMI is 30 or less.
  • You plan to have the breathing tube removed in the operating room (not go to the ICU with it).
