  • You have COPD that stays stable (not a sudden worsening)
  • You are 40 years old or older
  • You can perform a breathing test called spirometry
  • You do not have asthma, lung cancer, or other chronic lung diseases
  • You have not been taking mucolytics (medicines that thin mucus) regularly for at least a month
  • You are not pregnant or nursing
