How sodium levels are managed in kidney failure

Who can take part

  • You are at least 18 years old.
  • You need dialysis because your kidneys have failed (either from surgery or disease).
  • You have been on stable dialysis for at least 3 months.
  • You produce very little urine (less than half a cup a day).
  • Your blood sodium level is within a normal range (between 135 and 145 mmol/L).
  • Your blood potassium level is normal (between 3.5 and 5 mmol/L).
