Diaphragm pacing for weak breathing muscles from the ventilator

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You have been on a breathing machine for at least 48 hours and are expected to stay in the ICU for more than 7 days
  • Your diaphragm is weak (thickening fraction less than 25%)
  • You do not have a pacemaker
  • You do not have any skin sores or infections where the probes would go
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding
