Who can take part
- Age 18 to 75 years old
- Diagnosed with rectal adenocarcinoma that is pMMR or MSS (a type that doesn't have certain genetic markers)
- Tumor is located 6–15 cm from the anus or more than 4 cm from the anal verge
- Tumor has grown through the muscle layer of the rectum (T3 or higher) or spread to nearby lymph nodes, but has not invaded the surrounding tissue or spread to distant organs
- You have not had any prior treatment for rectal cancer (including surgery, chemo, radiation, targeted therapy, or immunotherapy)
- Your overall health is good (able to swallow pills, ECOG score 0–1, and normal organ and bone marrow function)
