Who can take part

  • You are an adult (18 years or older).
  • You are on a breathing machine (mechanical ventilator) and are sedated.
  • You have a breathing pattern called 'reverse triggering' (your breaths are out of sync with the ventilator).
  • You are not receiving a medicine that paralyzes your muscles continuously.
  • You do not have severe metabolic acidosis (blood pH lower than 7.25).
