Who can take part

  • You are at least 16 years old
  • You are on a breathing machine (ventilator) through a breathing tube or tracheostomy right now
  • You have tried to come off the ventilator before (failed a planned extubation or failed at least three spontaneous breathing trials)
  • Your breathing support settings are low enough (pressure support 10 cmH2O or lower) and you can trigger the ventilator on your own
  • Your blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen levels are stable enough for exercise
  • You can understand and follow simple instructions given by the team
