Who can take part

  • You must have ARDS (a severe lung injury that causes breathing failure), diagnosed using the latest guidelines.
  • You must be on a mechanical ventilator (a machine that helps you breathe).
  • You must be 18 years or older.
  • You cannot have a tracheostomy (a tube placed directly into your windpipe).
  • You cannot have a collapsed lung (pneumothorax) or a chest tube that is leaking air.
