Who can take part
- You have a type of head and neck cancer that has come back in the same area (mouth or throat) after initial treatment with surgery and radiation.
- Your throat cancer must not be caused by HPV (human papillomavirus).
- You are able to have surgery to remove the cancer.
- Your cancer came back at least 3 months after finishing your last treatment.
- You are willing to have a biopsy (tissue sample) before and during treatment for research.
- You have good organ function (kidneys, liver, and blood counts) and an ECOG score of 0 or 1, meaning you are fully active or only slightly limited.
