Testing a substance P blocker for high blood pressure and sleep apnea

This study tests if a drug that blocks substance P can lower a hormone called aldosterone in people with both severe sleep apnea and high blood pressure. If you have these conditions, this trial may help find a new treatment option.

Who can take part

  • You have severe sleep apnea with an AHI score of 30 or higher, confirmed by a sleep study.
  • You have high blood pressure, either treated with medication or lifestyle changes, or newly diagnosed with readings of 140/90 mmHg or above.
  • You agree to stop taking diuretics (water pills) and replace them with another blood pressure drug for 7 to 10 days before and during the study.
  • You agree to avoid licorice and products containing it for the same period.
  • You are between 18 and 75 years old.
  • You do not have serious heart disease, kidney disease, liver problems, epilepsy, active infections, or cancer being treated.
