Who can take part
- You are between 18 and 85 years old.
- You have severe leg pain when walking (claudication) that limits your activity, or you have pain in your foot or leg even at rest, or you have sores or ulcers on your leg.
- Your doctor has confirmed, with an X-ray dye test, a complete blockage in an artery below the groin (in the thigh or lower leg), with the total blocked length less than 40 cm.
- If the blockage is below the knee, there must be at least one open artery below the knee that supplies blood to the foot.
- You have not had any prior treatment (like balloon angioplasty, stent, or bypass surgery) on this same blocked artery.
- You do not have serious health problems like a recent heart attack or stroke (within 2 months), uncontrolled heart disease, a bleeding disorder, or severe kidney disease.
