  • Age 2 to 18 years old
  • Diagnosed with sickle cell anemia (HbSS type)
  • Parent or guardian agrees to sign consent form and child agrees to participate
  • Able to come to follow-up visits for at least 2 years
  • Not currently needing regular blood transfusions or having a reason to avoid them
  • Not taking any other treatments that could interfere with the study results
