Who can take part
- Your child is between 1 month and 5 years old (1 to 60 months).
- Your child weighs between 7.7 pounds and 44 pounds (3.5 to 20 kg).
- Your child is scheduled for surgery to repair a hole in the heart (atrial or ventricular septal defect) using a heart-lung machine.
- Your child does not have any other heart defects besides this one hole, or a combination of both types.
- Your child has no history of brain or nervous system diseases, stroke, or seizures.
- Your child does not have a pacemaker, severe anemia, active infections, autoimmune diseases, or cancer.
