Who can take part
- You must be getting radiation therapy along with cisplatin (a type of chemotherapy) as your main treatment, not after surgery.
- Your cancer must be a type called squamous cell carcinoma, and it should be in the oropharynx, larynx, hypopharynx, nasopharynx, or oral cavity.
- Your cancer must not have spread to other parts of the body (like the lungs or liver).
- You must be at least 18 years old and have a performance status of 0-2 (meaning you are up and about at least half the day).
- Your blood counts (like neutrophils, platelets, and hemoglobin) and kidney function must be within certain ranges.
- You cannot have had radiation to the head and neck before, or have certain heart, lung, or nervous system conditions.
