Who can take part

  • You must have been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and not received any previous treatment for it, except possibly hydroxyurea or a small amount of cytarabine for emergency control.
  • You are either 60 years or older, or under 60 but cannot have standard intensive chemotherapy due to age or other health problems, or you have refused that treatment.
  • Your liver and kidneys must be working well enough (based on blood tests).
  • You must be able to take care of most daily activities (ECOG score 0-2).
  • You cannot have a very high white blood cell count (over 25,000) at the start of the study, but hydroxyurea can be used to lower it first.
  • You cannot have had certain prior treatments like venetoclax, cladribine, or other similar drugs.
