Who can take part

  • Age between 16 and 64 years old.
  • Must have a new diagnosis of AML (not a subtype called APL or certain favorable genetic types).
  • You haven't had any prior AML treatment except maybe hydroxyurea or low-dose cytarabine to lower blood counts.
  • Your overall health is good enough for intensive chemotherapy (a performance status of 0-2).
  • Your liver and kidney function tests must be within certain safe limits.
  • You are not pregnant or nursing, and you agree to use effective birth control during the study and for 6 months after.
