Remote ischemic conditioning in ICU patients

This study tests a simple, non-invasive treatment called remote ischemic conditioning (using a blood pressure cuff to briefly stop blood flow to one arm) to see how it affects heart and blood flow in critically ill patients in the ICU. If you are in the ICU, over 18, and have a special heart monitor, you may be able to join.

  • You are currently in the intensive care unit (ICU)
  • You have a special monitor that measures your heart's pumping from an artery line
  • Your doctor has decided to do a test where they gently raise your legs to check your blood flow
  • You are not pregnant
  • You do not have serious cancer, a blood clot in your legs, or a head injury
