  • You are 18 years or older
  • You or your family have agreed in writing to take part in the study
  • You are on a breathing machine with a tube in your windpipe (endotracheal tube)
  • The reason for the breathing tube was a severe asthma attack or COPD flare-up
  • The breathing tube was placed within the last 72 hours (3 days)
