Who can take part
- You are 18 or older and admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU).
- You have a known lung condition called interstitial lung disease (scarring or inflammation) that is suddenly getting worse (acute exacerbation).
- Your shortness of breath has been worsening for at least a month.
- A CT scan shows new cloudy areas (ground-glass opacities) on top of your usual lung changes, not caused by heart failure or fluid overload.
- You need more than 6 liters of oxygen per minute to keep your oxygen levels up.
- You do not have a pacemaker or implantable defibrillator, and your body mass index (BMI) is not over 40.
