  • You are 18 years or older
  • You are scheduled for open-heart surgery (through a cut in your chest, including smaller cuts)
  • You do not have an active infection or take antibiotics for an infection right now
  • You are not known to carry MRSA bacteria
  • You are not allergic to certain antibiotics (cefazolin or vancomycin)
