Ultrasound of rib muscles in stroke survivors

This study uses an ultrasound to look at the small muscles between your ribs (parasternal intercostal muscles) in people who have had a stroke. It aims to understand whether stroke affects these breathing muscles, which might guide future rehabilitation.

Who can take part

  • Had either a clot-caused or bleeding stroke
  • Your stroke happened at least 6 months ago
  • You can understand and follow directions (score above 24 on a mental test)
  • No current or past lung problems (like asthma or COPD)
  • No surgeries on your chest or belly area
  • You don't have trouble understanding speech (severe aphasia) or facial paralysis
