Twice-daily hydroxyurea liquid for children with sickle cell disease

This trial tests a new twice-daily liquid form of hydroxyurea (a common SCD medicine) in children ages 9 months to 11 years with sickle cell disease. It will check how the medicine works in the body, if it is safe, and if it helps reduce pain crises and other complications.

Who can take part

  • Your child must have a specific type of sickle cell disease: HbSS or HbSβ0.
  • Your child should be between 9 months and 11 years old.
  • Your child must not have taken hydroxyurea (hydroxycarbamide) before.
  • Recent blood tests must show healthy levels of certain cells (enough neutrophils, platelets, and hemoglobin).
  • No blood transfusions in the past 3 months, and no history of stroke or brain bleeding.
  • For kids over 18 months, a recent TCD (head ultrasound) must show a low risk of stroke.
