  • You are in the intensive care unit (ICU) at a hospital taking part in the study.
  • You are 16 years old or older (or the legal adult age in your country).
  • You have been on a breathing machine (ventilator) with a tube in your airway for at least 48 hours.
  • You or your family have signed a consent form agreeing to join the study.
  • You are not currently being treated with the goal of removing life support (like the ventilator).
