Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You are scheduled for a planned (not emergency) neurosurgery.
  • After surgery, you are expected to be sedated for more than 12 hours.
  • You will need an arterial line (a small tube in an artery for monitoring).
  • You are not pregnant.
  • You do not have an allergy to the anesthetic drugs propofol or remifentanil.
  • You have not received other sedatives (like benzodiazepines, volatile anesthetics, or quetiapine) before the study starts.
