Who can take part

  • You have a disease of the tricuspid valve (the valve between the upper and lower right chambers of your heart) or a failed tricuspid valve replacement.
  • You are scheduled for surgery to fix or replace the tricuspid valve.
  • During surgery, the doctor decides the valve needs to be replaced instead of repaired.
  • You are not pregnant.
  • You do not have an active drug addiction.
  • You do not have progressive HIV or a low CD4 count (below 250).
  • Your tricuspid valve problem is not caused by another heart valve disease on the left side.
  • Your heart's pumping strength (left ventricular ejection fraction) is at least 40%.
