Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 80 years old.
  • You have a lower back condition such as a herniated disc, spinal stenosis, instability, spondylolisthesis (a slipped vertebra), or a fracture that might need open back surgery.
  • For herniated disc, spinal stenosis, or instability: your symptoms have not improved after 3 months of non-surgical treatment, or they seriously affect your quality of life, or you have nerve damage affecting bladder or bowel control.
  • For spondylolisthesis: your symptoms are not relieved by non-surgical treatment, have a severe slip (grade III or higher), or you also have spinal stenosis symptoms.
  • For lumbar fracture: the injury severity score (TLISS) is 4 or more.
  • You do not have any of the following: existing implants near the surgery site, previous removal of nearby bone, pregnancy or breastfeeding, active infection near the area, severe medical condition limiting life expectancy to less than 2 years, bleeding problems, or inability to follow instructions.
