Who can take part
- You must be 16 years or older and on a breathing machine for more than 48 hours
- You have a lung condition called ARDS when the breathing machine was started
- You do not already have a tracheostomy (hole in your neck for breathing) when starting the machine
- You were not transferred from another hospital more than 2 days after starting the breathing machine
- You are not in a terminal condition when starting the breathing machine, and you agree to let your medical data be used in research
