Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You are in the intensive care unit (ICU) with moderate-to-severe ARDS (a serious lung problem).
  • Your oxygen level is very low (PaO2/FiO2 less than 200) on a blood test.
  • You are able to have special monitoring: a tube to measure pressure in your esophagus and a chest band to see lung images (EIT).
  • You or a family member agrees to let your health data be used for this research.
