  • You are 18 years or older
  • You have a brain bleed, head injury, or fluid buildup in the brain (hydrocephalus)
  • You are in a coma (Glasgow Coma Scale less than 9) and need a breathing machine
  • You have an arterial line (a tube in an artery) for monitoring
  • A brain ultrasound shows signs of low blood flow to the brain
