Who can take part

  • You are a healthy volunteer age 40 or older (Group A), or you have stable COPD and your last flare-up was at least 6 weeks ago (Group B).
  • You do not have muscle, nerve, or bone problems that affect your breathing.
  • You do not have a diaphragm problem (like eventration or hernia).
  • You are not severely obese and have not had recent chest or belly surgery.
  • You are not pregnant and do not have a lung-scarring condition (like pleurodesis or fibrothorax).
