TMS for chronic tinnitus

This study tests whether repeated magnetic pulses (TMS) can help people with ongoing tinnitus. If you have had tinnitus for at least 3 months and it bothers you enough to score 38 or more on the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI), you may be eligible.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 to 80 years old.
  • You have had constant tinnitus for at least 3 months.
  • Your tinnitus bothers you a lot (score of 38 or higher on the THI questionnaire).
  • Your hearing loss is mild or less (a hearing test shows average loss no more than 50 dB in the worse ear).
  • You do not have Meniere's disease, epilepsy, stroke, acoustic neuroma, or certain metal implants (like pacemakers or cochlear implants).
  • You are not taking certain medicines (like sedatives, antipsychotics, or antiepileptics) or have had recent alcohol/drug abuse.
