Who can take part

  • You have a type of head and neck cancer called squamous cell carcinoma (but not nasopharyngeal cancer).
  • You are between 18 and 75 years old.
  • Your cancer is stage III or IVb and can be surgically removed.
  • You have not had any previous treatment for this cancer (like radiation, chemotherapy, or immunotherapy).
  • You are in good physical condition (ECOG score 0 or 1, meaning you can do all your usual activities).
  • You have adequate organ function (kidneys, liver, bone marrow) and no active autoimmune disease.
