Plastic versus metal stent for bile duct blockage from chronic pancreatitis
Part of Digestive system clinical trials.
This study compares two types of stents (plastic vs. metal) to see which works better for treating bile duct narrowing caused by chronic pancreatitis. If you have a bile duct blockage from chronic pancreatitis, you may be eligible.

Who can take part
- You are 18 years old or older.
- You have been diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis.
- You have a narrowing in your bile duct that causes symptoms like jaundice or abnormal liver tests for more than 4 weeks.
- You have not had a metal stent placed before, and any plastic stent you had was placed less than 6 months ago.
- Your bile duct narrowing is not caused by cancer, other liver disease, or other conditions listed.

This trial compares placing a small plastic drain (stent) in your pancreas duct versus usual care for people with severe acute pancreatitis that is starting to cause organ failure. The goal is to see if the stent helps you heal faster and prevents complications.
This study compares two types of temporary drainage tubes (stents) placed in your bile duct to relieve blockage caused by pancreatic cancer. The goal is to see which type works better as a bridge to prepare you for surgery.
This study compares two different metallic stent designs to help keep bile ducts open in patients with advanced bile duct cancer. You would already have a temporary drainage tube in place and be scheduled for a permanent stent, so this trial tests which stent type works better.
This study tests a special fully covered metal stent placed in the bile duct to prevent gallbladder inflammation after a routine procedure. It's for people with a blocked bile duct caused by a tumor whose gallbladder might be at risk.
This trial compares two ways to drain bile fluid in patients with cancer blocking the bile ducts near the liver. The study tests whether a newer metal stent placed above the blockage works better than the standard approach, potentially helping patients prepare for surgery or chemotherapy.
This study compares two ways to relieve a bile duct blockage caused by cancer: one uses a special scope through the mouth (ERCP), the other uses an ultrasound-guided scope to place a stent between the bile duct and the intestine. The goal is to see which approach works better for people whose cancer is 'borderline' — meaning it's not yet removable by surgery but not too advanced.
